KidsClick!
was developed by librarians, and it filters out non-kid friendly
sites. It also doesn't have the commercial aspect of Yahooligans, etc. Try it
and let everyone know how it works.
Ask Jeeves for Kids
is a natural language meta-search engine that helps with spelling and
guides students through a process of asking questions in a way that
will provide the best answers. It filters out age-inappropriate
content.
Yahooligans
Yahoo for kids, designed for ages 7 to 12. Sites are hand-picked to be appropriate for children. Also, unlike normal Yahoo, searches will not bring back matches found by crawling the web if there is no match from within the Yahooligan listings. This prevents possibly objectionable sites from slipping onto the screen. Additionally, adult-oriented banner advertising will not appear within the service. Yahooligans is the oldest major directory for children, launched in March 1996.
Awesome Library
Over 14,000 sites have been classified into a directory, specifically organized for teachers, students and parents. Information can be found by browsing or searching.
KIDS.NET.AU - Kids.net.au is a non profit search engine just for kids, which is operated by volunteers. Searching sites that are fun, educational, and child safe.
