From the Desk of Mr. Lee
……Of Principal and Interest……
Welcome back to Mac! We are looking to make the 2009 – 2010 school year an exciting one full of challenges that educate, entertain and inform students, parents and faculty alike!
The beginning of a new school year provides everyone, students, teachers and parents with the opportunity to start fresh, raise our expectations and recommit ourselves to doing the best we can every day. Let’s not miss out on this once in a school year opportunity to better ourselves and reach for the stars. Whether it’s in the classroom, on the athletic field or on stage performing, always reach high and do the best you can. Your efforts will pay off.
H1N1 (Swine Flu) Precautions
With the threat of the H1N1 (Swine Flu) upon us again we all need to be reminded of the proper hygiene to prevent the spread of the H1N1 Flu or for that matter any type of communicable illness in schools.
Parents, teachers and staff should have discussions with students regarding the following steps to help keep students, teachers, and staff from transmitting the flu virus.
These steps should be followed ALL the time and not only during a flu pandemic.
- Provide students, teachers and staff with easy access to tissues and running water and soap or alcohol-based hand cleaners. Wash hands frequently with soap and water.
- Educate and encourage students, teachers and staff to cover their mouth and nose with a tissue when they cough or sneeze. Remind them to cover coughs or sneezes using their elbow/forearm instead of their hand when a tissue is not available.
- Educate and encourage students, teachers and staff not to share drinks, water bottles or food with others. This is a quick way to spread the flu in a social situation.
- Students, teachers or staff who have a fever should not attend school. In addition, we will send sick students, teachers, and staff home and advise them and their families that sick people should stay at home until at least 24 hours after they no longer have a fever or signs of a fever (without the use of fever-reducing medicine).
- Move students, teachers, and staff to a separate room if they become sick at school until they can be sent home. Limit the number of staff who take care of the sick person and provide a surgical mask for the sick person to wear if they can tolerate it.
Using these universal precautions should help to reduce the chances of getting the flu and keeping students, teachers and staff in school for the purpose of learning and teaching. If you have any questions or concerns regarding H1N1 flu or any other health related issues, please contact our school nurse, Mrs. Brand, at 847-870-3879.

I look forward to serving you as the middle school Principal. I am looking forward to the challenges that may lie ahead. Only by working together can we educate, love and inspire our children to achieve their very best. We can all learn, live and have fun together at Mac. Again, WELCOME TO MACARTHUR MIDDLE SCHOOL and the start of the 2009 - 2010 school year.
