SCHOOL CLOSING INFORMATION
![]()
There have been times during the winter when we must close the schools due to adverse weather conditions which prevent the safe transportation of students to school. We strive to keep the schools open if at all possible, but sometimes we have to concede to the elements. When this does occur, a decision must be made on very short notice and communicated to the whole community. Therefore, we have very precise procedures with which you should be acquainted:
1. Under such conditions, all schools in our District will be closed. There will be a radio announcement that "Prospect Heights School District 23 Schools will be closed".
2. We will notify the following radio stations before 7:00 A.M. These stations then make periodic reports of emergency school closing:
AM RADIO WBBM 780 WGN 720 WMAQ 670 WLS 890
FM RADIO WLS 94.7 WBBM 96.3 (B96) WUSN 99.5 (US 99)
TV FOX 32 WGN 9
3. You can check the list of Chicago and suburban area closings at www.emergencyclosings.com/ (use Facility Name=Eisenhower, City=Prospect Heights).
4. When you are in doubt about school closing, listen to one of the above stations for information. Please do not call the school district offices. . . we need our lines for emergency purposes. When our lines are stacked up with such inquiries, we are at a distinct disadvantage to deal with emergency operations.
5. In case of emergency closing, PTO "Calling Chains" will also be activated. This is a back-up service. First information is best secured from your radio.
6. On any morning that conditions are very hazardous and you are not able to find out whether or not schools are closed, it is our advice that you keep your child home until you are sure. We join you in believing that the safety of your child is the first consideration in such an emergency.
7. Schools will be reopened the next day following an emergency unless you are notified otherwise by the above procedures.
