Rebecca Caudill Young Readers' Book Award

The fourth and fifth grade students at Eisenhower School may participate in the Rebecca Caudill Young Readers' Book Award program. Children read or listen to books from a list of twenty nominated books and then cast their vote for their favorite book. We feel that this program encourages children to read for personal enjoyment as well as to participate in a statewide activity. To be eligible to vote, a student must read or hear a minimum of three books from the list; however they are encouraged to read even more. The voting will be held in February, and the winner will be announced in March.

Please be aware that this is an optional activity for your children. If they wish to participate, they can pick up a list of this year's nominees from the Library. We have selected the books that seem most appropriate for fourth and fifth grade children. We have multiple copies of most of the titles. You must be the judge of what is right for your child.

Illinois is one of 39 states offering a book award program which is determined by student vote. The Rebecca Caudill Young Readers' Book Award will be given to the author whose book receives the most votes from young readers in Illinois participating in the program. The award is named in honor of Rebecca Caudill who lived and wrote in Urbana, IL for nearly 50 years.
