Information
Hello!  Welcome to the African-American Webquest I designed for my fifth grade class.  I think this webquest can be used by 4th-8th graders just as well.  My class really enjoyed working on this project, and I hope your class does too!  I tried to keep things simple, with explicit directions and complete with a printable grading rubric and parent information sheet.  Feel free to change any of the requirements, and adapt the directions to fit your class and teaching style.  Please e-mail any comments, questions, or suggestions to me so I can improve this webquest.Thank you!  K. Brunner

Basic Guidelines

1.  Allow students the freedom to choose their individual within the guidelines.  If one of your students selects another individual to research, keep in mind these 2 things: first, a less-famous individual will not have as much information on the internet to research and secondly, some individuals are not what you would call role-models.  The student may run into problems researching if the famous African-American they chose uses vulgarity in their act, because many schools pre-screen these sites, and will not allow viewing by children.

2.  In addition to the student requirements, a game board must be made from a large piece of posterboard.  First, I had students draw squares around the perimeter of the gameboard (like Monopoly).  I wrote the words "Black History Trivia Game" in the center, and asked each group to paste on several of their extra pictures around the title.  To play the game, we would ask the team a trivia question (written by the class as their 5 game cards).  If they responded correctly, they would roll the die, and move ahead.  If incorrect, they wouldn't move.  First team around the board wins!

3.  Click here for if you would like a printable set of directions to hand out to students and their parents.  Be sure to fill in the due dates!
