Vocal and Instrumental Music

As an elective students may choose to be involved in a vocal or instrumental program at MacArthur. The program includes Band, Chorus, and Orchestra at each grade level and meets for the entire year during the school day. Students who do not choose this elective are given a variety of other opportunities offered by core and exploratory teachers combined.

There are three bands at MacArthur. Varsity Band is for all 6th graders, Concert Band is for 7th graders and 8th graders, and MacArthur's Jazz Band is a selected group of experienced musicians, who are chosen by the band director from band students according to the instrumentation needed for jazz and rock arrangements.

The MacArthur Orchestra Program is for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students, who wish to participate. Some band instruments are included in the Orchestra, to form the MacArthur Symphony Orchestra. A selected group of experienced musicians are chosen to participate in the Serenading Strings, if scheduling permits.

There are two choral groups. There is the Beginning Chorus which is composed of 6th graders and the Advanced Chorus, which is 7th and 8th graders.
