Student Services

Our Mission

Welcome to the Prospect Heights School District 23 Student Services Department.  We provide a continuum of special education and related services to children ages 3-14, who reside in District 23 boundaries and meet specific eligibility requirements.  We believe all children should have the opportunity to be included within their home school but recognize that some students need more intensive and specialized supports through a therapeutic school setting.  The Student Services Department assists families in connecting with their school to ensure their child has access to their education and a successful year.

The Student Services Department works collaboratively with the Curriculum and Instruction Department to meet the needs of all District 23 students.  This site provides more information about referral, eligibility, programs, services, parent involvement, and resources.  If you have concerns about your child’s progress or need information about special education and/or related services, please contact your school’s special education team or the Student Services Department.

Continuum of Services
Prospect Heights School District 23 offers a full continuum of special education services.  We follow state and federal regulations that establish criteria for special education eligibility.  The federal government recognizes 14 categories under which children can qualify for special education.  These disability categories include: autism, deaf-blindness, deafness, developmental delay, emotional disability, hearing impairment, intellectual disability, multiple disabilities, orthopedic impairment, other health impairment, specific learning disability, speech or language impairment, traumatic brain injury, and visual impairment.
